Client Perspective
Mr. Lin, a Chinese-Australian homeowner in Melbourne, was building two private villas. During a trip to China in December 2024, he learned about Meizstairs through friends. Both villas were entering the staircase customization phase, so he engaged us immediately. His request was clear: a set of custom steel stairs that combine modern aesthetics with structural integrity.
Challenge
1. Hollow wooden wall structure – no load-bearing capacity
The villa’s main walls are timber-framed and hollow, unable to bear the load of a steel stair fabrication . There was also no reliable fixing point at the stair turn, making conventional installation impossible.
Complex corner transitions affecting glass railing flow
Each villa has three floors with two connecting stair sections. The connection area between the second and third floors involves multiple narrow corridors. Using standard floating stairs with glass railing connections would create many corners, breaking the visual continuity and making the overall effect untidy appeara and unaesthetic.
Custom Solution
Hidden internal support structure for hollow walls
To solve the hollow-wall loading issue, we designed a built-in ground support system. Load-bearing components were embedded inside the wall before wall cladding. After decoration, the support is completely hidden, ensuring structural stability without compromising the interior design — a perfect example of how a professional custom staircase manufacturer solves real-world site problems.
Optimized double stringer design with seamless glass railing
We proposed a double stringer stairs configuration to distribute load evenly while maintaining a clean, open look. Using 3D modeling, our designer repeatedly adjusted the plan to improve traffic flow and directly eliminated 2 corners. The redesigned glass railings follow the L-shaped corridor naturally, creating a clean, continuous line that balances functionality and visual appeal — truly custom floating stairs tailored to a complex floor plan.
Production & Factory Pre-Assembly
After finalizing the solution, we signed the contract and began production. The entire production and pre-assembly took 1 month .
- Steel components : laser-cut, precision-welded, and electrostatic powder-coated for corrosion resistance — meeting steel stair fabrication quality standards for export.
- Solid wood parts : kiln-dried to 8%-10% moisture content, meeting Australian standards.
- Full-scale 1:1 pre-assembly in our factory to verify all dimensions, ensuring every double stringer staircase detail dwg matched the actual site conditions.

Packaging & Sea Freight
After successful pre-assembly, all parts were disassembled and packed. Each piece was wrapped in multiple layers of sponge to protect coatings and glass, then packed into export-specific wooden crates. Our freight forwarder handled all export documentation — a reliable process for any stair supplier from China serving the Australian market.

On-Site Installation & Final Result
After arrival in Melbourne, all components matched the on-site openings perfectly. For the two villas (4 staircases total), installation took only 3 days . The client reported excellent results: the custom steel stairs are structurally sound, the floating stairs with glass railing look elegant and modern, and the installation was seamless.
